Integration Guide for Family Constellation Sessions

In the wake of a family constellation session lies an opportunity for the healing work to continue and the transformation to settle into new embodied patterns. Allowing yourself to rest in a pause enables what arises a constellation to properly digest, assimilate and integrate into the wisdom of your being. Integration is the process of bringing parts together to create wholeness. It is often where the nectar of the session reveals itself in cohesive narrative and lasting changes are created.

In the days after your family constellation session, take time to move slowly and create space for self-care and soul-tending. Pay attention to any intuitions, dreams, messages or insights that may reveal themselves as you continue to let the process of the work unfold.

As an aid in your integration process, here you will find a guide to support the alchemy of your session.

In this guide you will find

  • Reflection & journaling practices

  • In-depth self-care rituals

  • Ways to cultivate an ecosystem of resources

These practices draw from my background and study in the Ancient teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda, the modern day practices of mindfulness, somatic psychology, holistic science and additional indigenous wisdom traditions.

Use this guide as inspiration, but ultimately let your intuition guide your integration process.

Journal prompts

Narration creates cohesion in our consciousness. Stories can reveal the implicit, hidden contents of our remembering minds. Our narrative process is an ally in the integration of our life experiences.

Below are a few prompts you may consider exploring. Write to what you are intuitively pulled towards, or try one reflection a day.

  • Allow your mind to trace the journey of your constellation session. In your journal, you may consider these prompts as a way to reflect and remember what transpired.

    • What was the state of your mind, heart and being as you arrived for the constellation?

    • Did you have an intention? And if so, what was it?

    • What limiting beliefs, challenges or patterns came up in discussion? And what did you choose to focus the session on?

    • Describe the overall feeling of your session.

    • As you recall your experience, what sensations do you notice in or around your body?

    • Where there any visuals, symbols, intuitions, or messages that came forth in your session?

    • How have these insights influenced your perspective on life?

  • Free write. Set a timer and allow yourself to write a stream of consciousness. Don’t let the pen stop. Keep going.

If you need a guiding prompt you may begin with one of these:

    • In the session I noticed…

    • An unexpected moment I had during the constellation was…

  • Elaborate on your truth statement. This is the healing statement we came up with at the end of the session to break the pattern.

You may consider taking time to write out a vision of your truth statement, how life looks when you are living your truth statement.

If you feel inclined, you might even create a vision board based off of your truth statement.

    • Write letter to an ancestor or self: if there is something else that was left unspoken or unsaid, you may consider writing a letter to that ancestor or version of yourself to give voice to your thoughts, feelings, and expression.

    • Reflect about the unseen gifts: What gifts are passed down that you hadn't noticed?

  • Consider any lifestyle changes that you feel called to make based on the insights from your family constellation. How can you implement these in a sustainable way?

    • What new practices, rituals or ways of being do you want to initiate in you daily life?

    • How can you establish and communicate healthy boundaries to protect your vision and priorities?

    • What are 3 steps you might take to support you and future generations?

Rituals

Create an altar for your ancestors. Add anything that is meaningful for you. You could include heirlooms, symbols, totems, photos of your ancestors, a candle, a healing note. Take time to honor them, communicate with them, or offer support. This could be integrated into a meditation practice.

Post Constellation sElf-care

During this time, healing and integration can be supported by devotional self care and practices that nourish your nervous system and whole being. A few ideas include:

  • Prioritize rest and sleep as this can be a powerful way for the body to self-regulate and digest the experience.

  • Allow for grounding practices (such as breathwork, meditation, barefoot walks in nature, yin or restorative yoga, self-massage)

  • Explore embodiment practices like yoga, dance, movement to let the energy flow through.

  • Invite outlets for self expression

  • Tap into your community of support

    • Continue to process the session with a therapist or coach

    • Receive bodywork or energy work

    • Spend time in the company of those who uplift you
